Built in 2019, Vincentian Terrace Place is an independent living senior community in Pittsburgh’s North Hills that was intentionally designed for active adults 55+, with hassle-free maintenance and other amenities available.

A Continuum of Care

Terrace Place residents can opt to be a part of Vincentian’s full continuum of care. Planning cannot begin too early. This ensures that they receive the appropriate level of care when they need it, without having to leave the Vincentian system.

For more than 100 years, Vincentian’s commitment to quality and compassionate care has made us a trusted nonprofit in the region. Our focus on person-centered care is at the core of our full continuum of offerings. Vincentian’s reputation continues to endure and strengthen as we journey into our second century as a faithful partner to Pittsburghers of all ages.

Types of Care

Independent Living

Independent Living provides amenities like maintenance-free living, transportation, access to purchase of daily meals, and life enrichment programming for active older adults. This level of care is offered at Terrace Place and Vincentian Villa in McCandless.

Short-Stay Rehabilitation

Short Stay Rehabilitation, sometimes called short-term rehab, is for individuals who require post-acute care after a fall or hospitalization. The goal of short stay rehabilitation is to get patients well on their way to recovery to move back to their home. This level of care is offered at Vincentian Home in McCandless.

Personal Care

Personal Care is a pleasant living environment for seniors who value their independence but need a little extra help with day-to-day living. Personal Care residents typically do not require medical care or skilled nursing; rather, they receive meals, assistance as needed, and are offered a variety of social events to help promote an active and rewarding lifestyle. This level of care is offered at Vincentian Home Personal Care in McCandless and Vincentian Schenley Gardens in Oakland.

Memory Care

Memory care, Alzheimer’s care, and dementia care is a specialized program to help residents with cognitive impairment enjoy life to the fullest. Families can rest assured knowing that their loved one is in a safe and secure, yet open, accommodating setting. These residents enjoy structured activities delivered by staff trained specifically to care for those with memory difficulties. Research has proven that routine, familiarity, and activity help maximize the quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. This level of care is offered at Vincentian Home Personal Care in McCandless and Vincentian Schenley Gardens in Oakland.

Long-Term Care

Long-term care, traditionally called a skilled nursing facility or a nursing home, is a setting for typically older adults who require access to 24/7 nursing care. These residents may have cognitive, medical or physical limitations that require assistance with tasks like going to the bathroom, getting into and out of bed, eating, and taking their medication. This level of care is offered at Vincentian Home in McCandless.

Intergenerational Living

People of all ages and backgrounds have something to give and receive; at Terrace Place, we embrace it with college students living and forging relationships right on our campus.

An Intergenerational Vision

Vincentian’s spaces are designed to be a hive of activity where children, college students, parents, older adults, and generations of caregivers interact daily in both planned and spontaneous interactions of varying degrees. Based upon research from world-renowned experts, we seek to create intergenerational spaces that inspire intentional connections between generations, promoting engagement across the generations, where people of all ages interact physically, cognitively, and emotionally.

Following the research of Penn State University professor Dr. Matt Kaplan, Vincentian evaluates its intergenerational programming and spaces using the Five Rs: Roles, Relationships, Reciprocity, Recognition, and Responsiveness.

Students

When Vincentian Terrace Place opened in 2019, intergenerational living and programming was initiated with the LaRoche University undergraduate program. Today, six students currently live at Terrace Place rent free in exchange for spending time each week with the older adult residents. At Vincentian Schenley Gardens, an intergenerational partnership has been created with Chatham University in a similar model for graduate students. Students complete a rigorous application process to be considered for only a handful of apartment units offered at a discounted rate in exchange for committing sixteen hours a month to dedicated programming.

Terrace Place is situated on a park-like campus on over 9 acres in the heart of McCandless. All 91 open concept apartments feature master bedroom suites each with a private bathroom and spacious closet, along with a den and powder room. Granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and private patios/ balconies are just the beginning of apartment and community offerings that await you.

Our spacious, open-concept apartments are adaptable to your style and preferences. All apartments feature an identical floorplan with a patio or balcony.
