Dean Owrey to lead Vincentian as next CEO

Vincentian announced today the appointment of Dean Owrey as the organization’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Owrey’s appointment follows an extensive internal and external search and became effective November 1, 2021.

Owrey joined the Vincentian team in February 2020 as Chief Financial Officer. He has more than 30 years of strategic leadership experience and has driven a digital transformation in finance at Vincentian while also supporting major organization-wide initiatives amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Vincentian Board of Directors looks forward to working with Dean and the executive team to continue to build upon Vincentian’s excellent reputation for providing quality, compassionate care,” said Vincentian Board Chairperson Christopher Azzara. “We commend all Vincentian caregivers for demonstrating tremendous commitment and resolve in service to those in need, particularly in recent months.”

Owrey has worked for many years in the healthcare industry and with organizations of all sizes. His most recent position prior to Vincentian was with UPMC, where he served as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of UPMC Enterprises and UPMC Corporate Services. Among other initiatives at UPMC, he led the adoption of award-winning technology business management principles and oversaw a $700 million budget.

For many years Owrey was a Partner at Ernst & Young, where he led diverse teams across a portfolio of healthcare, insurance, and other clients in Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio.

“I am honored and humbled to serve Vincentian in this new way,” Owrey said. “Guided by our pledge to ‘Share Everything, Keep Nothing,’ Vincentian will continue to invest in the people we serve, the people who serve, and our campuses and programs as we approach 100 years of providing care to Pittsburghers of all ages.”

Throughout his career, Owrey has held board member positions for several non-profit organizations, including as Treasurer for the American Red Cross – Southwestern PA Chapter. He is the current head coach for the Quaker Valley High School boys varsity baseball team.
