Child Care at Vincentian

Our Philosophy

The Vincentian Child Discovery Center operates in conjunction with the philosophy and mission of Vincentian. We affirm the value of collaborating with parents/guardians so that together we may promote the highest quality of infant/childcare. Open lines of communication are imperative and are maintained at all times; parents/guardians are our most valuable assets and most effective partners.

An Inclusive Space

Vincentian Child Discovery Center believes that children of all ability levels are entitled to the same opportunities for participation, acceptance and belonging in childcare. We will make every reasonable accommodation to encourage full and active participation of all children in our program based on their individual capabilities and needs.

Classroom environments are designed to meet the needs of children. Adjustments are made to the classroom environment when necessary to support individual child needs. Age-appropriate classroom schedules are developed to provide for a balance of structured and unstructured experiences in addition to routine care.

Flexibility in classroom schedules provides staff the ability to adjust schedules in ways that meet the specific needs of the children enrolled in the class at any time. Staff uses regular observations of children to determine when/if changes need to be made to the environment and/or schedule.

Staff is assigned professional development annually regarding caring for children with special needs. Administration will provide staff additional education and necessary tools to provide care for children with specific health needs.

Our Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum is the guide for all of the programs at Vincentian Child Discovery Center. The Creative Curriculum offers the framework for schedules, physical classroom environments, and activity planning for each classroom. The teachers in each classroom develop a weekly lesson plan.

The activities that are planned for in the lesson plan support the development of skills outlined in the PA Early Learning Standards. The teachers use their own observations of the children in the class and their own education of child development when planning activities.

Cognitive, large, and small muscle, social and emotional skills are all developed during free play experiences. Teachers use free play periods to facilitate learning experiences and also to observe the development of the children in the group. Social and emotional skills are prominent in every classroom. These skills provide the foundation for all learning. Each age group focus on social and emotional development that is appropriate for the group.
