What You’re Supporting: Vincentian’s Greatest Needs

UNCOMPENSATED, BENEVOLENT CARE FOR OLDER ADULTS

Vincentian needs the support of our community more than ever before, having delivered over $11 million in uncompensated benevolent care to Pittsburgh-area older adults regardless of their ability to pay, in each of the last three years.

Nearly 50% of Vincentian’s long-term skilled nursing residents qualify for medical assistance. These vulnerable seniors need quality care; however, the government reimbursement falls short of the cost for Vincentian to deliver care today. This deficit of $20 per minute for each Medicaid-eligible resident adds up quickly, compounding across multiple older adults and days of care needed, sometimes until the end of life. Vincentian is unable to cover this multimillion-dollar gap of uncompensated benevolent care alone without the generosity of the community.

Vincentian was founded in 1924 as the “Home for the Incurables,” a nonprofit dedicated to caring for vulnerable Pittsburgh-area community members. The mission to provide care to those in need, regardless of ability to pay, remains unchanged.

BUILDING AN INTERGENERATIONAL COMMUNITY OF TOMORROW

Acquired by Vincentian in 2019, Vincentian Schenley Gardens emerged post-pandemic with a comprehensive master plan that redesigned the entire campus as a vibrant intergenerational community that prioritizes organic human connection across and between generations, holistic wellness, strengths-based programming, and sustainability. The
redesign includes bringing childcare for 100 infants to pre-kindergarten students within the campus, an entire floor of new all-ages community spaces, the expansion of offerings to college students, and an overall incorporation of intergenerational principles designed to
invite interaction both spontaneously and via intentional programming.

This community would be the first of its kind in the nation. And we are ready to build it right here for our neighbors. But we need significant financial support to translate our vision to reality.

Support Our Heritage and Legacy

Since our humble beginnings in 1924, Vincentian has touched
countless lives serving generations of Pittsburghers. It has been
our honor to compassionately care for your family, friends, and
neighbors when they needed us most. As we commemorate our
heritage this centennial year, we need your support more than
ever to continue our vital mission for our community.

A Mission Rooted in Compassion

Vincentian was founded in Pittsburgh in 1924 with a simple purpose: to care for those who could not care for themselves. Nearly 100 years later, these nonprofit, mission-based roots continue to define Vincentian. Dedicated to meeting unmet needs in our communities and being an employer of choice by the caregivers, Vincentian’s top priority – and passion – is people. We “Share Everything, Keep Nothing” because it’s what we’ve always done. Every day, for nearly 100 years.
