The attention to detail, the compassionate care she extends to the residents and her pleasant demeanor are why Sandra Talley, the night turn admin receptionist, nominated Towana for an Everyday Hero award.

“As residents arrive for breakfast, she greets each one by name and with a warm ‘Good morning.’” She takes pride in getting to know the residents, always talking and laughing with them. She goes the extra mile to make sure their meals are prepared as they like. She does the same for the residents who prefer to eat in their apartments – making sure the breakfast cart is well stocked and organized.

Jenn is thoughtful and takes the time to do “all of the extras” for our residents, explained Crystal Craig in her nomination.

An example of this is the way she cares for one of her residents who likes to wear winter gloves all of the time. “Not only does Jenn make sure the resident has a clean pair to wear, but Jenn also bought her a bunch of gloves for Christmas.”

“She is a great CNA who goes above and beyond for all of our residents. She does all the little extra’s others might say they don’t have time for.”

“It often goes unnoticed how much the activities department has had to adapt during the pandemic to do their jobs,” writes Hillary Butts, who nominated Ken.

Ken is well-known as the guy who roams the halls strumming his guitar and singing to the residents. The pandemic hasn’t slowed him down. He adapted to keep spreading the joy. Through his mask and face shield, he sits outside the resident rooms and serenades those inside.

“He endured a personal tragedy this year with the passing of his wife, yet he continues to focus on our residents and their happiness.”

Words cannot say enough about Diane. She has been a Godsend to our family! She makes my mother feel loved.

She embodies all of the core values of Vincentian’s mission,” wrote a family member whose mother is a resident. Diane is one of her care givers.

During COVID, when families were not able to visit, Diane realized the resident wasn’t able to call her children on her own, so Diane called them for her. When the resident had a setback in her health, “Diane worked with her on every occasion to strengthen and motivate her. And it’s working. I call it the Diane Factor.”

There are many examples of the ways Trista has demonstrated that she is an adaptable team player who always has the residents’ and her coworkers’ interests at heart.

She supported the Activity department when new COVID isolation protocols were put in place. When activities were cancelled, she spent her free time with residents to keep them calm and comfortable. She helped with the screenings at the front door to give the managers a much-needed break. And when the unit secretary went on maternity leave for three months, she covered that position, in addition to her own.

To be considered, the nominee should exemplify the heart of one or more of Vincentian’s values through their on-the-job performance:

Attentiveness and concern to matters of spiritual well-being as well as caring for resident’s physical needs.

COMPASSION

A concern for the needs of others with the desire to respond, requiring a respect for the dignity of every person as we serve those in need to the best of our ability.

DIGNITY

The quality of knowing that every individual – children, the sick and elderly – are deserving of respect and concern as we strive to meet their basic human needs.

A degree of excellence that demands competent services in a caring environment, from the atmosphere of the workplace to the expertise of the persons rendering the service.

Who can nominate Vincentian employees for the Everyday Heroes program?

Anyone in the extended Vincentian family can nominate an Everyday Hero. This includes residents, patients, parents and families, volunteers, visitors, vendors, and other Vincentian employees.

What does it mean to be an Everyday Hero?

An Everyday Hero goes above and beyond, serves as a role model to others and embodies one or more of our Vincentian values in their daily work.

How do I nominate a Vincentian caregiver for the Everyday Heroes program?

Complete a nomination form online (preferred) or fill out a paper form. Paper forms are located at our Everyday Heroes nomination stations in any of our campuses. The paper form can be submitted by placing it in a nomination box or by email to hr@vcs.org.

What is the deadline for submitting a nomination?

There are no deadlines! Everyday Heroes nominations are accepted throughout the year. Nominations are reviewed and awarded at the end of each quarter.

I nominated a Vincentian caregiver, but they were not selected as an Everyday Heroes winner. Why?

Thank you for taking the time to nominate a caregiver! Every nomination is important and deserving of recognition. Our Everyday Heroes committee reviews all nomination each quarter and selects one awardee for each campus. Even though your nominee did not receive an award this quarter, they may be considered in the future.

Who do I contact for questions and/or feedback about the Everyday Heroes program?

Does an employee have to be full-time to be nominated?

No. Any employee can be nominated for Everyday Heroes, regardless of their scheduled hours, as long as they have been with Vincentian for at least 6 months and have not recently received a corrective action.

What is the deadline for submitting a nomination?

There are no deadlines! Everyday Heroes nominations are accepted throughout the year. Nominations are reviewed and awarded at the end of each quarter.
